Thousands take part in the Kabaka Birthday Run to support the HIV response in Buganda
Kabaka's Birthday Run 2022, "Together we can end HIV/AIDS".
An estimated 80 000 people participated in the Kabaka Birthday Run, an annual event held to commemorate the birthday of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II of Buganda Kingdom.
For the last three years, the run’s theme has been “Men for Good Health and Ending AIDS by 2030.”
About The Event
UNAIDS- Uganda inspires the AIDS response of Uganda to achieve its shared vision of zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related deaths.
UNAIDS-Uganda leads and unites the efforts of 11 UN organizations—UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, UNFPA, IOM,, UN Women, ILO, UNESCO, WHO, FAO and works closely with global and national partners towards ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The “Men are Stars – Abaami Munyeenye” campaign connects men and boys aged 15 to 49 to HIV testing, treatment, and care services, particularly in areas most hit by the pandemic.
Men and boys learn the necessity of frequent health check-ups, including HIV testing, through activities like:- the Kabaka Birthday Run, the Masaza football cup, the royal boat race, traditional campfire centers, school camps, radio and television programs, and radio and television shows.
